Step into history at the 20th Annual History Alive Colorado West Chautauqua, a free day of living history, storytelling, and performances at Cross Orchards Historic Site.

This year’s theme, Liberty’s Legacy, celebrates two landmark anniversaries—Colorado’s 150th and America’s 250th—by bringing to life the people and ideas that helped shape our state and nation.

Featured Chautauqua Scholars

Karen Vuranch as Mother Jones
Meet the legendary labor organizer who fought for miners, workers, and children during the late 1800s and early 1900s.

Doug Mishler as Thomas Paine
Encounter the influential writer and political thinker whose revolutionary words helped inspire the fight for American independence.

Throughout the day, Young Chautauqua performers from the Museums of Western Colorado and Stages of History will also portray historical figures connected to Colorado’s and America’s milestone anniversaries.

Come for one performance or spend the day with us as history comes alive through engaging portrayals, conversation, and community learning.
